If you’ve always loved the look of smocking but thought it would be too difficult or time-consuming to do, this is your chance to try it! We’ll be making a beautiful smocked necklace that can be completed in just a few hours. I’ll show you how to make it from start to finish, and when you’re finished you’ll be able to use the skills and confidence you’ve gained to include smocking in your other sewing projects. Or just make more necklaces. They’re addicting, are a great take-along project, and they make great gifts!

$15 (includes a kit with all the materials needed for your necklace, a selection of pre-pleated fabric, various colors of embroidery floss, needles, silk ribbon for ties, and beads for embellishment; extra scissors and plenty of additional supplies)

Liesl Gibson

Liesl Gibson is the designer behind the Oliver + S and Lisette brand of sewing patterns and fabrics in addition to Straight Stitch Society sewing patterns. She holds a degree in fashion design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and worked for high-profile companies including Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger before launching her own company in 2008. She is also the author of the book Oliver + S Little Things to Sew and teaches sewing and pattern-making techniques.
