I truly felt like I was being hugged the whole day.

It is hard to know where to begin to express how much I (we) enjoyed coming to the Makerie. I think we were all so impressed with every little detail and all the love that went in to creating an amazing day. I could go on and on about how much we all loved our day on the farm. But even better was the time spent with my Grandma. She was so happy to spend time with all of us and you could just see her floating on air the whole day long. During our weekend together, she shared stories that we had never heard before. Thank you, thank you, thank you for creating such a wonderful opportunity for a reason for us to put together our first ever three-generation vacation! I can’t wait to come back!

As an ophthalmologist and mother of four children five years old and under, this retreat was much needed nourishment for my soul. I came away feeling refueled and energized by not only the workshops but the meals that were individual works of art in their flavor and presentation. I made friends with creative minds from around the world and was inspired to return to my everyday life with new vigor and the reminder from Sweet Paul that “perfection is boring.

Thank you, thank you for a most beautiful day on the Farmette earlier this month. You made me feel so at home from the first moment I arrived at the farm and left feeling so blessed by the creative passion, generosity, and joy poured into every detail of the day by those of you who made it happen. What a luxury to spend a day with like-minded people, from different walks of life but all eager for more creativity, joy and purpose in their daily lives. That special day came at just the right time on many levels. It was exactly what I needed, even though I didn’t know I needed it. Thank you!

I am back home but I swear that the smell of cool, crisp mountain air is lingering in my hair after an amazing weekend at The Makerie in Boulder, Colorado. I don’t even know how to begin to describe this weekend. I could describe what I made, give you straight information about my classes or share how we did yoga followed by a beautiful breakfast…or, I could talk about how I made many new friends all of whom are exploring their creativity and shaping a world full of beauty. Or how the mountains are quiet but we got loud and laughed until we cried and then cracked open and just cried (but only a little). I could tell you about how my one journal entry was this “something special is passed between people when in a room full of women who trust in themselves or are learning to trust themselves”. But, none of that would be enough. nowhere near enough so I decided to put down an excerpt from a poem I came across on the plane ride home. It just felt appropriate. from Walt Whitman’s song of the open road:
I am larger, better than I thought, I did not know I had so much goodness. All seems beautiful to me, I can repeat over to men and women,You have done such good to me I would do the same to you, I will recruit for myself and you as I go, I will scatter myself among men and women as I go, I will toss a new gladness and roughness among them, Whoever denies me it shall not trouble me, Whoever accepts me he or she shall be blessed and bless me. The efflux of the soul is happiness, here is happiness.

What an amazing experience! So much inspiration, hilarious times, and delicious food. Everything they did made you feel loved and welcome. My head is now spinning with ideas and I am trying to filter them all. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to share an experience like that with wonderful, colorful and talented women. It does encourage me to pursue what I love to do, to just go for it with open mind and heart.

I’ve been in the events business for more than twenty years and this is my hands-down favorite event of all time. From the confirmation emails, the music playlist, and the workshop options to the on-site experience of meeting everyone and soaking in two days of incredible teaching from the experts in the business and the insanely delicious food ~ to the over-the-top fabulous take home presents ~ this was an absolutely stellar experience. I will absolutely come back and I am a fanatical fan of the Makerie now ~ and will tell everyone I know how wonderful it is. I wish the Makerie was a country that I could move to and live in all the time…. my kind of people, my kind of ambiance, my kind of warmth. Bravo!

What has emerged this past week is a remarkable thing. It is a beautiful young sapling that has emerged through the enormous work and commitment from the Makerie team. It is a sapling that will continue to take root and grow as we return again and again to bask in the fierce shade that it will cast as we learn to bring our true selves to this magical experience called the Makerie.

The Makerie is the best gift I have ever given myself! Since my return, I have make a pointed effort at creating every day, no matter what. I am taking time for me and it is wonderful! I wanted to thank you for putting together such a special event. It is exactly what I needed at this time in my life. The word I gave in the circle this morning was cherished. Beyond welcome you made us feel special and important. The little details, the signs, lunches and the stack of quilts are a lot of effort and often go overlooked. They were not overlooked by us. It was what made this more than a a weekend art camp. Often we are the types of people who do those little touches for others but rarely (if ever) does anyone do them for us. And that is why I felt cherished.

Reflecting on my days at the Makerie, I feel such joy and gratitude. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing your dream to fruition so that I could do the same for mine. Most of all, the love, warmth, and sense of community the Makerie gave me was a gift unsurpassable. I have returned home inspired and validated.

Words and even the 100+ photos cannot express this past weekend at the Makerie in Boulder, Colorado. It was beyond wonderful. I thought it would be fun to take some cool classes in another city. I had no idea how emotionally charged, inspiring, relaxing, energizing, exhausting and full of wonder the weekend would be. OMG. I really can’t say enough wonderful things about my experience. I think everyone who was there felt just as grateful and inspired by the experience that was created for us. Taking time away from our everyday lives, letting go, opening up and making new connections with people face to face was a real gift.

The Colorado Chautauqua is really a perfect place for a creative, inspirational retreat, with adorable little cabins set at the base of the trails and community buildings nearby for meetings and classes. The scenery and location are breathtaking.I was hooked almost immediately. I learned new things. I made new friends. I was inspired. I didn’t want to leave. And I was a teacher! The sense of community at the retreat was what really grabbed me

Wow. Wow. Wow!!! I had the time of my life at the Makerie. The attention to detail, beauty and quality put into this event was beyond a delightful experience. I can’t tell you how nice it was to feel so taken care of on so many levels. I’m defintiely come back a better person, friend and artist because of this retreat.
