NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Learn the fundamentals of punch needle rug hooking with Rose Pearlman. This introductory class teaches all the necessary techniques while providing all the materials and tools necessary to create your first hooked piece. Rug hooking with the punch needle can create a wide variety of creations. From accessories to home goods, children’s toys, and decorative objects, the punch needle method is simple to learn, requires little space, and is a repetitive, soothing craft for all ages and abilities.

Students in this workshop will have the option of creating a 12” circular cushion or a cross-body bag using the highest quality of rug hooking supplies like the Oxford Punch Needle, hand-dyed rug yarn from Seal Harbor Rug Co, and a reusable 12” rug hooking frame. In this class, students will learn all the fundamentals of how to rug hook and the techniques used to finish a rug and turn it into a functional object. This in-depth workshop will explore alternative fibers by turning recycled clothing into needle punch fiber, and incorporating novelty yarns and string into hooked rugs. Students will leave this workshop with all the knowledge and resources to start creating on their own. No prior fiber experience is needed for this class.

Each student will receive a #10 Oxford Punch Needle, foundation cloth, 12” reusable rug hooking hoop, 9 oz. of Seal Harbor Rug Yarn in an assortment of colors, sewing supplies and backing materials to create a full object, and an instructional booklet with a resource guide for continuing on your own.

Every rug starts with a design. For many this is the hardest part of creating. With a simple collage exercise, students can practice using space, proportion and color before beginning to punch. Developed as an exercise to help with designing a rug, these hand-painted, reposition-able stickers can be cut into any shape, and are easily removed and re-stuck as to work out design compositions. With colors to match the hand-dyed rug yarn, students will work onto a surface proportional to their actual rug canvases and serve as a blueprint to their punch needle project.

Learn how to create a beautiful open netted wire basket that can be used to store belongings or hang as a decorative object. With easy to follow instructions and simple supplies, this special bonus workshop session will provide you with all the necessary tools and instructions to make your own natural looking vessel. The takeaway instructions and supply resource guide will give you all the knowledge to continue to recreate baskets on your own.
